Associate Professor Rose-Hulman receives award for engineering training

HIGH EARTH, Ind. (WTWO / WAWV) – The Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology announced this weekend that one of its associate professors is a co-recipient of the prestigious William H. Corcoran Award from the Chemical Engineering Division of the American Society for Engineering Education. academic success in teaching chemical engineering.

Sponsored by Eastman Chemical, the award is presented annually to the author of the most outstanding article published in the journal Chemical Engineering Education. Rose-Hulman Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering Daniel Anastasio was one of the award recipients this year.

Anastasio contributed to the article “Revealing the Decision-Making Processes of Chemical Engineering Students in Process Safety Contexts”, following research on experiential process safety training supported by a program grant. The National Science Foundation’s Undergraduate STEM Education Improvement.

Anastasio shares the winning article co-author with his research collaborators Cheryl Bodnar and Brittany Butler from Rowan University, Daniel Burkey from the University of Connecticut, Matthew Cooper from North Carolina State University and Emily Dringenberg from the Ohio State University.

A member of the Rose-Hulman Faculty of Chemical Engineering since 2015, Anastasio has a research background in engineering pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on play-based learning and the design of laboratory experiments. He also studied membrane separations for desalination and water purification.

Anastasio was also a co-recipient of a North American Membrane Society Educational Innovation Fellowship with Rose-Hulman Professor Marissa Tousley in 2020.
