âWestinghouse has a proven track record of supporting the Czech Republic nuclear park, delivering the first control and monitoring systems for the TemelÃn power station, and recently signing an excellent contract with ÄEZ for the modernization of these systems, âsaid Mike coon, vice president of energy systems at Westinghouse. âOur continuous work in the Czech Republic Along with the talented and diverse suppliers we have encountered here, this will bring in tens of billions of CZK in localized spending and provide thousands of jobs during construction and throughout the life of the plant. “
Executives from Westinghouse and Bechtel shared information on the design of the AP1000, the sourcing strategy and the successes of the AP1000 plants currently in service. The Westinghouse AP1000 plant, which offers the industry’s highest safety, operability and load-following capability, is considered the leading Generation III + technology. It is being assessed for deployment in a number of Czechia’s European neighbors, which may open up additional opportunities for the Czech nuclear industry.
“The Czech Republic has taken steps to reduce its use of coal while maintaining its energy security through the use of nuclear power, âsaid Ahmet Tokpinar, COO of Bechtel’s nuclear business. âBechtel and Westinghouse have hands-on experience in the design and construction of AP1000 plants, but we will absolutely need the Czech supply chain to help the country reach net zero by 2050. Sooner we can do being aware of the opportunities and what will be needed, the better. “
Westinghouse and Bechtel are currently completing the construction phase of two AP1000 units at the Vogtle site in Georgia, United States, the first unit to enter commercial operation in 2022.
