General Brown and Chief Bass Receive COVID Vaccines; urge airmen to do the same

Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles “CQ” Brown and Air Force Staff Sergeant JoAnne Bass received their COVID-19 vaccines on Tuesday, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

The Air Force posted photos of the senior service officer and enlisted leader on the same day on its official Twitter account. Brown quickly retweeted this post and said he was “grateful” that he and Bass received the vaccine.

Bass too tweeted a selfie taken in his office with Chief Master Sgt. Mike Perry, the Air Force’s first directing sergeant of special services, threw up his thumb and said, “I didn’t even feel it!”

Executives tweeted their photos in an attempt to encourage military personnel to get vaccinated when possible. The military does not currently require the military to take the COVID vaccine.

In the Air Force tweet, the service also urged personnel on priority to receive the vaccine to take it “to protect their health, their communities and reduce the public health risks associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.”

After Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Mark Milley, Vice Chairman Gen. John Hyten, and enlisted senior adviser to President Ramón Colón-López received the vaccine last month, Brown also retweeted photos of their vaccinations.

“Your safety and the well-being of our airmen is paramount,” Brown wrote in his Dec. 28 tweet.

Brown, along with much of the senior military leadership, went into quarantine last October after being exposed to the coronavirus. Vice Coast Guard Commander Charles Ray tested positive for the coronavirus this month, after meeting with Brown and other members of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and senior generals. Brown has not tested positive for the coronavirus.
