IIT Bombay Alumnus Dr. Sharad Saraf Appointed New Chairman of the Institute’s Board of Governors

Dr. Sharad Kumar Saraf, an alumnus of IIT Bombay (B.Tech. 1969, Electrical Engineering) has been appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors (BoG) of the Central Institute.

Initially, an alumnus of IIT Bombay is appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Institute.

Dr. Saraf has been a member of the BoG of IIT Bombay for four years and is also the Chairman of the BoG of IIT Jammu. He is currently Chairman and Managing Director of Technocraft Industries India Ltd., which he co-founded in 1972 with his brother, Mr. Sudarshan Kumar Saraf, also an alumnus of IIT Bombay. The post of Chairman of the Board of IIT Bombay was previously held by Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of INSPACe – Department of Space, Government of India.

Commenting on his recent appointment, Dr Saraf said: “I am very pleased with this new responsibility that has been entrusted to me. This is the first time in history that an alumnus of IIT Bombay has been appointed Chairman of the BoG and I think this is a very bold move by the Ministry of Education. My goal as Chairman of the BoG at IIT Bombay is three-fold: to improve the quality of education and student life on the campus of IIT Bombay, whether that means improving the infrastructure of hostel or academics; Focus on relevant and commercially viable research; and Support start-ups, especially those funded by our alumni”.
