Dr Dev Joneja, alumnus of IIT Kanpur, donated USD 1,75,000 ( ₹1.27 crore) towards the creation of the Pavitar Joneja chair in the department of human and social sciences of his alma mater.
This chair, which will be created in honor of his mother Pavitar Joneja, was designed to develop new learning paradigms and training methods for the dissemination of knowledge by formulating training programs and promoting excellence in research and in leadership.
Major disciplines identified include English, Fine Arts, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology and would involve research published in reputable national and international conferences, journals, articles, books, consultancy projects , etc.
Dr Joneja, who graduated in Mechanical Engineering from IIT-K in 1984, has been a major benefactor of the institute over the years. He has already established the Arjun Dev Joneja Faculty Chair in honor of his father in the Department of Civil Engineering.
Dr Joneja said: “The humanities and social sciences courses I took at IIT have played a much bigger role in my career than I enjoyed at the time and I would like to support this part. of the training of each IIT student. “

Dr. Dev Joneja also donated to the Class of 1984 Chair, IITK Campus Workers, and Online Education during the pandemic, benefiting underprivileged IITK students.
