Innovation summit set for high tech return in November

VERONA – The New York State Innovation Summit, an annual showcase and celebration of technology and discovery, will return November 8-9 at the Turning Stone Resort. “The annual summit brings together New York’s brightest minds, the most promising technology and manufacturing companies, and the most resourceful innovation support services. This leads to new connections and collaborations that have the potential to accelerate technology-based economic growth, ”according to the organizers of the event.

Through a series of speakers, breakout sessions, and presentation sessions, attendees have the opportunity to demonstrate, discover, and collaborate on new and emerging technologies. The summit is hosted by NYSTAR, the Science, Technology and Innovation Division of Empire State Development, and FuzeHub, the state center for the New York Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NY MEP).

The summit is back this year after the postponement of the 2020 event, which had been expected in the Mohawk Valley, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 2019 summit, held in Rochester, attracted more than 500 innovators, business leaders and entrepreneurs, as well as more than 100 exhibitors, giving a boost to hotels, restaurants and attractions in the area.

Several top executives and executives are expected to speak at the 2021 summit, including Andrew Marsh, President and CEO of Plug Power, Gregg Lowe, Cree President and CEO, Guha Bala, President of Velan Studios, and Joshua Ness, senior director of Verizon 5G Labs.

“This year’s lineup not only illustrates the strength of New York’s innovation economy, but also represents some of its key industries: cleantech, semiconductor, digital games, and information technology,” said said Matt Watson, senior vice president of NYSTAR. “And with a billion dollar chipmaking plant rising near Utica, the Mohawk Valley is the perfect place to showcase – and accelerate – our state’s technological prowess. Many attendees and exhibitors, including companies represented by our keynoters, received support from NYSTAR’s extensive network.

He said: “The summit brings them together to spur even more growth, which in turn creates jobs and strengthens New York’s economic future. We look forward to the return of this vital event and the inevitable success stories that will date back to November 2021 at the New York State Innovation Summit. “

At the summit, NYSTAR and FuzeHub will showcase companies and researchers at the forefront of technological advancements and production capabilities. Experts in several fields – including biotechnology, new materials, energy innovation and artificial intelligence – will explore current opportunities for technological convergence, ways to accelerate commercialization, and sustainability issues in manufacturing.

In the small group sessions, participants will learn:

Economic development in New York City, including the current capital finance landscape and state-backed programs that provide essential resources and incentives to manufacturing and technology companies.

National trends related to the future of electronic packaging and manufacturing, innovations that protect our waters and promote sustainable food production, and emerging strategies for manufacturers in a post-COVID era.

Disruptive technologies, including the widespread impact of quantum breakthroughs, the competitive advantages of data mining and artificial intelligence, and the opportunities that exist for innovators in biotechnology and advanced healthcare. New to the summit in 2021 is FuzeHub’s annual Jeff Lawrence Innovation Fund Marketing Competition.

Now in its fifth year, the Marketing Competition provides significant funding to companies across New York City. Finalists present their innovations to a live audience, and a panel of industry experts select the winners based on the commercialization potential of their technologies.

In last year’s marketing competition, FuzeHub and NYSTAR awarded a total of $ 300,000 to six companies.

FuzeHub Executive Director Elena Garuc said, “At the heart of every innovation summit is the commercialization potential of cutting-edge technology developed and manufactured in New York State. This is what makes our marketing competition a natural fit – I expect the bar to be higher than ever. As in the past, startups and manufacturers will also have access to resources from NYSTAR and NY MEP to help them take them to the next level. “

Additional speakers and panelists for the 2021 New York State Innovation Summit will be announced in the coming weeks. Companies wishing to present their technologies, products or services at the Summit will be able to apply to exhibit from summer 2021. Sponsorship opportunities are also available.
