KTRK-TV, the Disney-owned television station in Houston, TX has an opening for a vice president, chief information officer. The Vice President – News Director is responsible for the news product across all of the station’s platforms as well as managing strategies and teams to develop content that connects with the community in a way that stimulates audience and revenue growth.

The Vice President – News Director is a key leader within the station, upholding our commitment to quality journalism and the communities we serve while fostering newsroom modernization and maintaining a vibrant culture that embraces change and innovation.

This leader will work closely with the CEO on developing a clear vision for the future of our local business and will be effective in communicating, motivating and inspiring his team in the implementation of this vision through hands-on leadership, optimism, strategic risk. taken and targeted measures of success. The Vice President – CIO will work within ABC OTV with other CIOs and key executives to drive collective growth and success.

Lead efforts and be responsible for developing and implementing a content strategy that attracts and engages audiences across all platforms
Directs and manages all newsroom operations to drive ‘ethical results’ (meet or exceed KPIs) including established goals / objectives to help increase ratings, audience, video and market share
Oversee and evolve the brand to maximize its impact, relevance and connection with local audiences.
Lead a high-end cross-platform news organization comprising a large and diverse team of talent across various roles and disciplines
Key partner with general sales management and sales teams in the ideation and development of content that aligns with strategic objectives to meet / exceed local advertising budgets / forecasts and monetize audiences across all platforms
Continue to identify more effective and efficient approaches to operations and processes throughout the newsroom
Develop and maintain strong relationships with community leaders as a key member of the resort management team
Look for opportunities to contribute to the local market for the betterment of the community
Recruit, develop and retain a strong team, including on-air talent; provide advice and coaching to maximize their performance and accelerate their professional growth
Support data and analytics to drive optimization of content, products and cross-platform platforms, as well as accountability in the newsroom
Execute all company policies / objectives while maintaining the highest level of ethics and industry standards

Establish and maintain an atmosphere of innovative and highly collaborative culture that fosters the generation of new ideas, open communication, respect for others and excellence
Create a diverse, collaborative, fun and stimulating work environment
Collaborate with other parts of OTV and TWDC to advance group interests and leverage assets
Develop and develop unified OTT strategies to create / aggregate content on streaming platforms
Drive business development efforts and partnerships to drive modernization and advance the group’s goals

Basic qualifications:
Demonstrated leadership experience in a newsroom of a local medium to large DMA broadcast station or other news organizations
A participatory leadership approach that fosters collaboration and innovation
Ability to recognize, create and communicate priorities, strategies as well as market opportunities and challenges to drive growth and improve performance
Attention to detail, project management skills and the ability to lead and manage effectively in a dynamic and stimulating environment
Strong written, verbal and presentation skills
Understanding of FCC Rules and Regulations
Experience working with unions and contract negotiations

Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding of marketing and audience development in a multiplatform environment
Experience in managing budgeting and strategic planning processes

Education required
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or a related field or relevant equivalent experience
