Odisha’s government decided on Saturday to transform Bhubaneswar College of Engineering and Technology (CET) into an unaffiliated university in order to facilitate research and higher education there. A proposal in this regard has been approved by the state cabinet.

The government has welcomed the enactment of the Odisha University of Technology and Research Bill, 2021. Once the bill is passed by the state assembly, the TEC will be renamed the University of Technology and Research. Odisha research (OUTR), Bhubaneswar, chief secretary said the SC Mohapatra.





The CET authorities will be able to offer graduate and postgraduate courses, doctorate and research in the field of engineering, science and technology after the upgrading process is completed. The institute will also provide opportunities to improve the employability of students through entrepreneurial training and specialized skills development programs, he said.

The cabinet also approved 15 other proposals from various departments. A proposal to award the Narangarh Khondalite block to the state-owned Odisha Mining Corporation Ltd for the development of Puri as a World Heritage city got the green light at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The coastal city development project has been taken over as part of the program to increase basic amenities and develop heritage and architecture (ABADHA). The cabinet also gave the green light to a proposal to waive royalties on Khondalite minerals mined from reserved mines in order to ensure the successful implementation of projects under the ABADHA program, the chief secretary said.

Several drinking water projects across the districts were also approved at the meeting, he said. The state cabinet also gave a green signal to a project to widen the Duduka-Gopalpur-Toparia road to Sundargarh and a proposal to upgrade the Odisha State Wide Area Network (OSWAN) program that will cost 332 crores. rupees, he added. .
